[ The brief ]
Driftwatch pings you before your customers notice the outage. Onboarding emails in this category are furniture assembly instructions. The spec brief: make two emails a human would finish, then answer.
[ Craft decisions ]
- →Subject lines written last, from the email’s single best sentence.
- →Each email asks for exactly one action; the second asks for a reply, on purpose.
- →The P.S. does objection-handling so the body can stay light.
[ The sample ]
Day 1 · Subject: Your site just got a guard dog
Hi, you’re in. Driftwatch is now staring, unblinking, at your homepage every 30 seconds. It will notice a problem roughly four minutes before your most annoyed customer does, and it will tell you first.
One thing to do today (90 seconds): add your status-critical page: checkout, login, the one that pages you at 2 a.m. Click “Add monitor,” paste the URL, done. The dog watches two doors now.
Day 3 · Subject: The 2 a.m. question
Quick question, and I actually read the replies: what broke last time, and how did you find out? If the answer involves a customer tweet, you already know why you signed up. Tell me what happened; I’ll tell you exactly which alert would have caught it.
P.S. Yes, the free plan stays free. It watches one site forever. We’d rather be the tool you trust before we’re the invoice you approve.
[ Read it like an editor ]
The sequence sells vigilance without fear-mongering: the dog metaphor carries the value, and the reply-bait question doubles as customer research the client can reuse.
